Anila’s Authentic Sauces has been chosen as an exemplary local food business to attend a farmers’ market at ‘A Garden Party to Make a Difference’, 8 -19 September, in the historic gardens of Marlborough, Lancaster and Clarence Houses and along the Mall in London.

The 12-day festival is part of the national Start initiative launched in February by The Prince of Wales, and will play host to spectacular installations, concerts, fashion demonstrations, food, debates, gardening, music and comedy by many household names, but all sharing the single theme of sustainability. A full line-up can be viewed at startgardenparty.co.uk

The farmers’ market will be centre stage at the food area of the show, hosted by Kate Humble, amidst cookery demos by celebrity and local chefs. Anila Vaghela, who operates Anila’s Authentic Sauces based in Walton-on-Thames and Hounslow will be one of the producers attending the farmers’ market on September 9th and 10th and will be selling her range of curry sauces, pickles, chutneys and dips.

Laura Waterton of FARMA, which represents farmers’ markets across the UK and are supporters of Start, commented, “FARMA is delighted to be working with some excellent local food and craft producers from farmers’ markets across the South of England at such a high profile event as A Garden Party to Make a Difference. We are thrilled that Anila’s Authentic Sauces are able to be part of the area as it will give them the opportunity to showcase their fantastic food to a great audience.”

We have scooped a two ** Gold Great Taste Award for our popular Goan Green Curry Sauce.
The accolade marks our 11th Great Taste Award by The Guild of Fine Foods for our range of premium curry sauces, chutneys, pickles and dips.

To win such a high rating, up to 20 judges unanimously agreed that the Goan Green Curry Sauce had achieved ‘absolute perfection’.

“The Goan Green Curry Sauce is one of our most popular sauces, and we are thoroughly delighted that the judges of the Great Taste Awards 2010 agree that it’s something very special“. It’s such a versatile and delicious curry sauce, and as it is gluten free, dairy free and with no added sugar, as well as being suitable for vegetarians, it appeals to a very wide range of tastes. Made with mint, coriander, spinach and coconut, we love it, our customers love it and now we’ve had confirmation from The Guild of Fine Foods, which promotes excellence in speciality food.”

It is one of eight premium curry sauces, handmade in small batches and is perfect with fish, prawns and vegetables. We also produce a range of 16 chutneys, pickles and dips made with single fruits and vegetables.
Previous Great Taste Award winners in the range include three *** Gold Awards for Anila’s Spicy Korma and Spicy Mild curry sauces, and awards for the Chilli Chutney and Tindoori Pickle. The Spicy Korma Curry Sauce also scooped a Free From Food Award in 2009.

It was a pleasure to receive such wonderful feedback from one of our customers recently and would like to mention it – as below

“I am compelled to write to you because of your (hot) Methi Sauce.

A brief explanation; I ‘discovered’ methi when I was living in Twickenham when I was about 20 years old.

There was a restaurant called ‘Standard Tandoori’ which offerred a dish called ‘Methi Gosht’ or mutton with methi sauce. I had grown up on English versions of Madras and Vindaloo and Rogan Josh, but this first ‘authentic’ flavour was a revelation to me.

Ever since, I have always judged a restaurant on whether they serve a methi dish, or if they are prepared to make one specially for me, and 95% of the time I have endured chicken tikka prepared chicken/lamb with a non descript sauce with a few, possibly methi leaves thrown in to humour me.

Fast forward about 5 – 6 months ago, we found that there was a ‘Farmers Market’ in nearby Surbiton, and always looking for quality products we stumbled across your stall. You had a guy working with you who was a Fulham fan, and we enjoyed a chat, and then I saw the Methi Sauce. I tried it and was so pleased I had, it brought back memories of how a ‘curry’ should taste, flavour and heat without each cancelling out each other.

Since then we have been regulars, and have bought your your bhaji’s and samosa to compliment the sauces, and have not been disappointed.

Today I have prepared a methi chicken. Fine sliced onions, celery salt, corriander and dried methi leaves with a fine sliced red chilli, using 5 breasts of chicken and your sauce with the emptied jar full of water to thin the sauce a little.

I am in raptures of pleasure, your sauce is a triumph, I cannot praise it enough, the word exquisite does not do it justice. If I had money I would become a partner in your business!

This saturday we tried your sauce ‘dips’ and also bought the fruity curry for my wife and the medium curry which also tasted fantastic and authentic, we hope you branch out with a bombay aloo too!

Thank you, so very much for making available your sauces, you have made jaded taste buds and I very happy”.

My very best regards – Ed & Sue Holford
