  • Ireland is first stamp in Anila’s passport

    01.09.2006 / News & Mail

Anila’s Authentic Sauces has taken its first export order, from Dublin’s Fallon & Byrne food hall, after signing up for Food From Britain’s (FFB) Passport to Export Scheme.

The order, for a pallet of curry sauces, chutneys and pickles, came after the Surrey-based company’s owner, Anila Vaghela, travelled to Dublin with a group of UK producers.

The Food From Britain trade development visit at the end of June included a reception and networking event at Fallon & Byrne, with buyers and distributors in attendance such as the Boyne Valley Group, Dunnes Stores and O’Briens Sandwich Bars. The two-day visit also included a seminar on speciality retailing in Ireland and visits to several stores.

“I’m really excited about my first export order and am hoping for more.” said Vaghela, who also met an Irish distributor keen to take her products.

She is targeting exports after building a successful business in the UK. “I supply 100 delis and farm shops directly and have a distributor going to around 300 more, but I still have capacity at my factory. Exports seemed a good way to fill it.”

Anila’s has paid £3,000 to join the Passport to Export scheme, which is match-funded by government. This is to be spent on trade visits, such as the one to Ireland, and representation and research by FFB’s overseas offices over the next 18 months.
